Christina Aguilera's Big Boo-Boo!!!! Discuss here..........

Post by dvdjunkie »

Okay she is very talented, she has a voice that can melt chocolate, and though I don't always agree with her choices in make-up, I still love her.

Her faox-pa on Sunday at Super Bowl XV. Knowing she was going to sing the National Anthem for many weeks before the event, she even totally rehearsed it the night before, and still forget the words, added words that aren't there, and took our National Anthem to a new low. This to me was the worst version ever of our special song. Trying add her own rendition to this song was not a smart thing to do at this National Football Day.

Now I have heard Christina do the National Anthem many times, twice live, and she never missed a word, but last night was an abomination.

And I won't even start up about how bad The Black Eyed Peas were.

Her version of the anthem was too short, it needed to go on for at least another ten minutes.

She seems to be loosing the plot recently; the ill advised Bionic, the terrible movie, now this ..... I don't know whats happened to her :? She used to seem very together, now she seems to be coming apart at the seems.

I dont know how true this is, but on various gossip websites, it says shes turned to drink, and was a bit tiddled before her performance ... but who knows ??

But however you look at it ..... yes, she was crap.

*faux-pas ;)

I have to agree, the musical talent at the Super Bowl this year was weaksauce. Lame Halftime Show (not even Slash could help), XTina butchering the National Anthem, it was all pretty 'turrible'.

It would be the only way to spark some interest for the Super Bowl among Europeans. ;)

French police, more like it. :)

My other response, hu carezz?? :?

Clearly she was so engrossed in her improvisations, she had trouble concentrating on the words.

Wouldn't it be..."spelling police"?

Anyway, I didn't see this, but I don't really get the big deal here. It's not like she shot someone or something. It's just a song that people screw up all the time. (Maybe if I was a Football fan, I would care more...)

Yeah, I didn't even notice her flub when I was watching (perhaps I was paying more attention to her unnecessary runs).

Don't smile about it, the French police can be psychos! I hope that dvdjunkie isn't being locked in solitary confinement or suffering from tear-gas or baton injuries. ;)

Personally, I'd assumed that Christina was actually rather stable, especially in comparison to how Britney was a few years ago. Obviously, her new album seemed a bit of a Gaga wannabe, and Burlesque looks about as enticing as a gherkin covered in dog hair (though honestly, Cher put me off that film more than anything else ;)), but I didn't expect her to be having drinking problems. I did read that she recently got divorced, so perhaps that is a main factor.

As for the anthem, I can understand why some people may be upset, but it was a human mistake, and not a malicious attempt to twist the lyrics and destroy America from within. Seriously, an obnoxious tourist would be a greater disgrace to her country than a slip in a song, no matter how sacred it may be. However, I will agree that her warbling was a bit too much. ;)

Ha- if American pride were so sacred, why the hell did so many people vote for Bush Jr.? That's the kind of thing that forces a person to question their American pride every day of their lives.

Britney ever been saddled with this gig?

I have a feeling that the majority of Super Bowl viewers didn't even notice the wrong lyrics until it was pointed out to them later.

Only those of us who sing along with the person doing the singing. That's how I noticed it, and was very upset that she just blew it off as 'well, I tried'.

I have been to other events which Christina sang the National Anthem, and she didn't add any thing to the song, like she tried to do Sunday and forgot the lyrics. I think that those who obligate themselves to sing our National Anthem, should just sing it straight forward with no additions or subtractions. This can all be done in about 1:54, but leave it to our little Miss Christina to screw up her two minutes in the spotlight.

Believe the performance was all over the internet afterwards, and the uproar could be heard from one coast to another.

You could see the uneasiness and even WTF expressions on people's faces at the Super Bowl as she screwed up the verse. I wouldn't exactly call it a sacred song or some kind of disgrace; she obviously just screwed up because she was trying too hard at the song . . . which is kind of funny since it's one that every grade-schooler in Amercia knows. :p

Really? I mean, I'm pretty sure I know all the lyrics, but I think most people just fudge and assume that's what they heard (like they do with most songs). The average American probably doesn't know what "ramparts" are. Even looking it up now, I always thought it was "Over the ramparts we marched..."

To be fair I'm referring to my own experiences. I specifically remember we had whole lesson plans wrapped around that song throughout our grade school music classes. And for several years I headed an after school program and we'd sometimes sing the song as a group (which was a pain since I can't hit all the notes ), and the only kids that seemed to need help with the lyrics were the really young ones.
