Amy Adams Set to Star in Janis Joplin Biopic

Post by UmbrellaFish »

Hollywood sweetheart Amy Adams is set to shock cinemagoers with a rocking new film role: She's signed on to star as tragic 1960s blues legend Janis Joplin in a long-awaited biopic.

The "Enchanted" star will transform into the "Me and Bobby McGee" hitmaker under the direction of "City of God" filmmaker Fernando Meirelles.

In an interview with Fearnet.com, "Twilight" producer Wyck Godfrey confirms he is at work on several new films, and "one's a Fernando Meirelles Janis Joplin movie with Amy Adams playing Janis Joplin."

Meirelles was previously confirmed to helm the biopic about Joplin's dramatic rise and fall from the spotlight; however, an actress had not yet been attached to star.

Joplin died from a drug overdose in 1970 at age 27.

I don't know much about Joplin or her music but I already know that I'll have to see this!

I saw this earlier. I love both of them, but I don't know if Amy could pull it off... =/

Amy is one of my favourite working actors, but this seems at first glance to be a total miscast.

But then again people said the same thing about Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Guess we just wait and see.

Well, you have to consider no other Joker Joker for his performance to work and Jack Nicholson's Joker was perfect, laying all others past and present to shame, so...

Does anyone have a better actress in mind?

I still think Mark Hamill was the best Joker ever. Anyway, I know Amy could do it, I just don't want to see her do it. She's such a goddess, I don't want to see her as scruffy ol' Joplin.
