I think I've only used it twice. Both times in the past few weeks, and both times concerning Crystal. Getting into the song does not require screaming off-tune. When someone does that, it sounds like banshee shrieking. Screaming on-tune doesn't bother me, which is why I didn't mind most of Adam Lambert's performances and Siobhan's "Paint It Black" (the only time where her screaming gimmick worked). Still, I've heard many emotional performances outside of Idol that don't require screaming to "get into" a song (and, no, I'm not referring to Miley Cyrus, because I don't like or listen to her either).dvdjunkie wrote:
I think you confuse screeching with singing, and you have used that term very often, and I think it is unfounded. What you might call 'screeching' is someone feeling the song, and not once this season did I hear Crystal Bowersox 'screech'. I heard her lose her way in a melody a couple of times, but I have never heard her "screech".
As far as future seasons go, they really would've been saved if Elton John had said yes to that $30+ million they offered him. 'Cause I can't really think of someone off the bat that would fit that role as well. They're really screwed, and after this horrible season, it's hard to be sympathetic.
