"Sonny with a Chance" (Disney Channel show)

Yay! I love Disney Channel, so I'm glad for any new shows! I also really like Demi Lovato- she has an AMAZING voice and she seems really nice. Disney is definitely prepping her and Selena Gomez to take over the Tween Queen title from Miley, which makes sense, since the baton must move on eventually (i.e., from Hilary to Raven to Miley to Demi & Selena).

Why can't we just have a new revival of "The Mickey Mouse Club"? It's Disney's fault that people connect Mickey Mouse to preschoolers.

I suppose I shouldn't judge this show too quickly. It sounds like it'll be a little messy, but maybe they can pull a "Hannah Montana" on us. You got to admit that show juggles Miley's homelife and stardom rather well.

The name of the show changed (yet again; apparently it had been renamed Welcome to Holliwood):

http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/

Demi Lovato's upcoming Disney Channel TV show is called Sonny With A Chance, reports Spanish magazine Para Todos.

“It’s about a girl named Sonny having a chance to make it in [show] business,” the 16-year-old Camp Rock star tells the mag. “We filmed the first episode and we will continue to film the series through the next few months.”

Sonny With a Chance is set to air in February or March 2009.

Production has begun in Burbank on Disney Channel’s Sonny with a Chance, an original comedy series for kids and families about a talented Midwestern girl who gets the chance she’s been dreaming of when she’s cast in the most popular sketch comedy series for kids and tweens, So Random. The series will depict the goings on with Sonny, her family and new friends in Los Angeles and at the studio, behind the scenes of So Random. It will feature a show-within-a-show, with fully produced comedy sketches. The show is on track to make it’s premiere in early 2009 and will include the following cast:

Demi Lovato as Sonny Munroe
Nancy McKeon (Facts of Life) Sonny’s mother, Connie Munroe
Tiffany Thornton (Hatching Pete)
Sterling Knight (17 Again)
Brandon Smith (Phil of the Future)
Doug Brochu (iCarly)
Allisyn Arm (Dive Olly Dive!)

Wow...they got Nancy McKeon?

I'm glad for her being back on television (I miss "The Division"!), but she had to end up on THIS? I know I shouldn't judge the show before seeing it, but my god, Nancy McKeon deserves more than a manufactured "Hannah Montana" clone.

I'm so excited! I got Demi's album when it came out and saw her perform with the Jonas Brothers on their last tour. I love Demi! I can't wait for her show. :D

hmmm sounds promising!

I must admit, I think the writing in Hannah Montana is brilliant. Brilliant in the sense that there's not an episode where I don't crack up laughing. Hopefully this will amuse me just as much seeing as HM will probably run its last season next year.

I agree that HM can be funny, but I think it's due to Oliver and Jackson. I think whenever there's a joke going, Miley will say "Sweet nibblets" or something and just kill the moment. I don't think she's funny and I don't think she can act or dance. However, I think Demi is genius and has such a unique voice and is just everything Miley isn't.

I will admit though that Billy Ray had a really funny moment in that episode where Miley dated the rich boy, and Billy Ray and Jackson pretended to be British. That was hysterical! Then Miley said "Sweet nibblets" and it was over.

La La Land is Demi's second single off of Don't Forget, and the music video will apparently feature all of the cast of Sonny with A Chance. The song is one of my favourites off the album, talks about the pressures of Hollywood. The video will premiere on December 19th on the Disney Channel during the encore screening of Camp Rock.

Disney Channel has confirmed that Sonny With A Chance starring Demi Lovato will debut on Sunday, February 8th. The premiere will be accompanied by several classic Disney Channel broadcasts. Here’s the line-up:

1pm Central
High School Musical featuring “vintage” 2006 interstitials with Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel.

3pm Central
High School Musical 2 featuring 2007 interstitial segments with Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu, KayCee Stroh, Olesya Rulin, Ryne Sanborn, Chris Warren Jr. and director Kenny Ortega.

5pm Central
Camp Rock featuring interstitial segments filmed in 2007 with Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Alyson Stoner, Meaghan Jette Martin and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.

7pm Central
Sonny With A Chance premieres on Disney Channel (simulcast on Sprint TV and MobiTV). In the episode entitled "Sketchy Beginnings", Sonny Munroe arrives in LA, anxious to meet her new cast mates on her favorite sketch comedy show So Random! After a rocky welcome from Tawni, Sonny tries to impress the cast with her ideas to improve a sketch.

7:30pm Central
In the episode entitled "West Coast Story", Sonny meets Chad Dylan Cooper (of the drama series MacKenzie Falls) in the cafeteria and learns of the simmering rivalry between the two casts. When tensions arise, Sonny attempts to make a peace offering.

I'll be interesting to see well Demi Lovato will compare to Miley Cyrus/Selena Gomez in the disney sitcom medium. I personally think she'll be more like Hilary Duff which will be good! This is the first DC series in awhile not to have some sort of unrealistic "gimmick" (secret fame, magic powers, an ability to see into the future).

Classic and vintage is now 2006 and 2007.

Thanks for the laugh, tommy2.net!

Lol, i can't believe they got Nancy McKeon either. As Kram just said a few minutes ago..."She (Nancy McKeon) wouldn't do a Facts of Life Reunion Movie, but she'll do a tween one?" - - Just kind of surprising.

But if Nancy is on it, maybe it is actually a well written tween comedy...and not just another clone. Guess we'll see.

It's probably just a paycheck for her. And with the clout of "Disney" on your resume, she can probably get better roles later (that is, so long as she doesn't add "Channel" after it :P ).

well that sounds cynical ("sin-nickel" lol). anyways, even if it is true, at least she's back on tv - it'll be neat to see if she still has some comedy chops under her belt.

True, and true!

I'll probably tune in for Ms. McKeon. But there's not much else that I think I'll enjoy in the show.

Well, I hope this show turns out better than the promos make it look. I won't expect it to, and I don't care much for Demi as an entertainer either, but we'll see I guess.

I found a YouTube video preview but I have yet to see one on the actual Disney Channel. I guess I haven't been watching enough:
http://disneysdudesentertainment.blogsp ... -2009.html

The premise does sound interesting, but some of the characters already seem super cliched. I guess I'll have to wait and see it to make any informed judgments. But the idea that Jo Polniaczek will play her mother is exciting!

Since they set it at a television studio lot, I wonder if they'll use the opportunity for Jake Ryan from Hannah Montana to make appearances.
