From Mouseketeer to Musician: UD's Interview with Don Grady

Post by Luke »

UltimateDisney.com wrote:In UD's newest interview, Aaron Wallace catches up with Don Grady. Grady launched a career in show business (as Don Agrati) in 1957 as a cast member on Walt Disney's popular daily variety series "The Mickey Mouse Club." Three years later, he took on a leading role in "My Three Sons", playing Fred MacMurray's middle son Robbie Douglas in what would become one of the longest-running sitcoms ever. While Grady left acting more than twenty years ago, this decade has brought him back to Disney. Now a musician, Grady's diverse list of credits includes scoring theme park attractions at Universal Studios, films, television series, and bonus features on more than a dozen Disney DVDs. Most recently, Grady has teamed up with Walt Disney Records to create original compositions for a pair of Disney Princess-themed CDs. In From Mouseketeer to Musician: An Interview with Don Grady, the former actor/current composer reflects upon his two television hits, tells about a career come full circle, and discusses the just-released Disney's Princess Christmas Album. Read on.
Aaron did a great job with this interview. It's a highly entertaining and informative read even for those like me for whom the name "Don Grady" didn't ring too much of a bell beforehand. I know firsthand how much it can suck to pour a lot of time doing research, conducting an interview, and putting it all together only to receive not a single comment of feedback or acknowledgement for the effort.

So, let's all read this now and discuss here.

Thanks to Don for taking the time to talk with the site and kudos to Aaron for conducting such an interesting piece!
"Fifteen years from now, when people are talking about 3-D, they will talk about the business before 'Monsters vs. Aliens' and the business after 'Monsters vs. Aliens.' It's the line in the sand." - Greg Foster, IMAX chairman and president

That's a nice interview, Aaron. As Luke mentioned, it's both entertaining and informative at the same time. It was nice to read about Don Grady and about his experience with Disney and how Don thinks about that nowadays. The bit about Disney "testing" Don is quite interesting as well. Even a person who hasn't heard much (or has heard nothing at all) about Don will surely learn many things about him while reading this interview. Thanks for taking the time and effort to get this interview done, and I hope we'll be seeing more interviews at UltimateDisney.com.

Well, I knew absolutely nothing about him before reading the interview, so I learned a lot. I was most surprised by this, though.
By the way, I do all the music for the DVD bonus materials, features... and all that stuff. I've done all the Platinum DVDs, Beauty and the Beast games, and Aladdin, and The Lion King, and Cinderella. I do a lot of that music for the DVD department.
I guess it surprised me because I never really thought about who does the music for the DVDs. Small world, huh?

Anyway, great interview, Aaron! It was interesting.
