Walt Disney Pictures will present its newest all CG animated film Meet the Robinsons in Disney Digital 3-D(TM), opening in theaters nationwide December 2006.
On opening weekend the film [Chicken Little] brought in a screen average of $26,000 in 79 3-D theaters compared to the overall screen average of $10,961 in over 3600 theaters.
"We anticipate that 'Meet the Robinsons' will be shown on between 750 to 1000 screens with Real D capabilities."
I didn't get to see CL in 3D (it's only in Ontario!), unfortunately. For those that did, was it really all that cool? Was it comparable to Polar Express 3D? Do you think that with Disney's decision, along with several directors announcing many slated projects are going to be "made for 3D", that this is the way Hollywood is going? Are all our films going to be in digital 3D within ten years? Should Pixar take suit and release Cars in 3D?
P.S. Luke. Not sure if this should be General or Off-Topic.
I do remember reading somewhere that George Lucas was going to release Star Wars in 3D. Apparently it's some sort of new fad to release movies in 3D since they can't be pirated like 'traditional' movies can since consumer video cameras can't record the 3D effects.
I think this would be a very good option for Disney. A few 3D movies would be fun, but I don't want to go as far to say that all movies, Disney or not, should be in 3d...that would be the end of my movie watching and cause an economic boom in migraine medication.
I would love to see the Star Wars movies in 3D and in IMAX mostly because I have never seen a 3D movie in it's 3D form (shows yeah but not a movie on the big screen!).
Apparently Peter Jackson intends to release a 3D version of King Kong shortly after it's initial release. Night of the Living Dead 3D is arriving in Jan. Walden's Media's Journey to the Centre of the Earth is currently shooting with 3D cameras and going to play in IMAXes. Paramount's Smurfs is being done in 3D. Lucas announced that he'd like to show the Star Wars movies in 2007, for the original film's 30th Anniversary, in 3D, though no real plans are made out yet. James Cameron, a leader in 3D, is currently shooting his next picture, Battle Angel, with 3D cameras. And I remember hearing something about Rodriguez (Spy Kids) doing more with "real" 3D.
I went to see Chicken Little twice in the digital 3-D and it was pretty cool. I'll probably go see anything else they decide to show on the 3-D screen as well.
Also, just avoid confusion... this 3-D presentation was not in IMAX theaters. It was shown in theaters using digital projectors. The reason for this 'new fad' is that they discovered that if you have a digital projector and screen you can show 3-D movies with no special equipment except for the glasses(which are gray not the old red and blue style). Since this Chicken Little screening was a success, this may help to accelerate the proliferation of digital theaters across the country. Yea!
Lets just go back to the original style of animating. That's the best way, no computers just a pencil and a piece of paper. Now that's what I'm talking about.

i think 3D is cool but i totally agree with zoltack disney has completly abandoned the style of animation that made them famous
GO WIDE SCREEN AND SEE THE WHOLE MOVIE THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED
well more serious movies like Bambi would not be very good with 3d glasses. I like 3D, but Disney needs to try to make serious pieces of art sometimes, Dreamworks can churn out the comedies.
Wlecome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion.
I am your host, your ghost host
Is this haunted room actally stretching or is it just your imagination?

I'm not into some Disney CGI 3D film. "Chicken Little" was a success in the box office. 3D movies has been around since the 50's. Disney made two 3D films such as "Melody" and "Working for Peanuts" featuring Donald Duck and Chip & Dale. If you know about the history of the 3D movies, here is the link:

Grey as in like the kind they use in Mickey's PhilharMagic?
3D sounds interesting, but I don't know if I'd want to sit through an entire movie of it.
Anyone know ahead of time if Chicken Little's 2006 DVD release will contain both versions?

Yes, grey as in Mickey's Philharmagic. Sitting through a 3D movie isn't bad at all, besides CL isn't very long. I saw it twice and the 3d didn't bother me a bit.

Well put. I wish they would put the same artistry in there latest films instead of making it out of a computer. As we see in Bambi impressionism is a great way to make back grounds. I mean Bambi is just an impressionistic piece of art and that's one of the many things that make it soo great.
