Hopefully someone can help me so that my wife and kids will believe me.
In the mid 60's I saw a movie on The Wonderful World of Disney titled "Pancho and the Dancing Chihuahua". Ithink that's the correct title.
It was about a young mexican boy and the dog traveling on foot and thier misadventures. If you recall this, please let me know.

I don't recall it (cus if i saw it it was on old tv and i weeee bit unicelular) but i do recall seeing that title (or sommething very similar) as part of some list of Disneyland TV shows or shorts somewhere when i was doing goofy research.
I remember that because it struck me how many titles were like that. (mexican/hispanic names associated with cute little dogs foxes cats etc on their titles)
maybe it was a true life adventure type movie?
if you really wanna make sure i could try to find the list again..

Yes it does exist, although i haven't seen it, but this is what Bill Cotter's book 'The Wonderful World of Disney Television says about it'.
Pablo and the Dancing Chihuahua
Airdate part 1: 1/28/68
Airdate part 2: 2/04/68
Cast:
Armando Islas (Pablo)
Francesca Jarvis (Helen Gordon)
Walker Tilley (Caretaker)
Manuel Rivera (Manuel)
A young boy finds adventure in the desert as he searches for his missing uncle. Pablo's quest gets off to a bad start when he's caught trying to cross the border between Mexico and the United States, but he sneaks away whil the border officials are examining the papers of Helen Gordon, an American tourist. Her pet Chihuahua follows him as he runs into the desert.
*This episode, shot on location in Arizona, took two years to film. The production company had to plan for the normal growth of the young star so scenes shot over the 2-year span matched and didn't make his 6-inch change in height noticeable.
*This show was released theatrically overseas in 1969.
hope this helps, and welcome to the forum!

Yes there was such a movie made for television. I maintained and trained the 3 Chihuahuas that were used for the film.
The original script was for one episode, however after the initial film was rough cut, Mr Disney liked what he saw and wanted it stretched to feature length. Unfortunately he passed away that year and with the changing of the command, the filn was relegated to a 2 part TV movie.
I have acquired it on DVD that was made from a converted PAL version. I spent the past 4 decades trying to find it so that I can pass a copy on to my Grandson..
It was a very good little family film..
