Pixar for sale?

Steve Jobs, chairman and CEO of Pixar, has indicated that he might be willing to sell the company for the right price. The 50% owner stated in a published report that he was willing to consider selling to "two people with knowledge of the talks" to extend the studio's current relationship with distributing giant Disney. According to CNNMoney, Jobs is looking for a strong return on the sale and would also be open to an offer from Disney. Any sell of Pixar however would be based on the best deal for the company and not Jobs' new found working alliance with Disney's new CEO Bob Iger, with whom his other company Apple Computer recently signed a deal to distribute some of its shows on iPods. This news comes just days before the November 4th release of Chicken Little, Disney's first solo, all CGI production that analysts expect will give leverage in the negotiations to either Disney if the film is a hit or Pixar if the movie flops. Either way, experts anticipate daily talks between the two companies should resume in mid-November and could be wrapped up by the first of the year.

I don't think MGM could buy Pixar, or anything else for that matter, considering it got bought by Sony last year.

Wow, I still find it hard to believe Jobs is wanting to sell Pixar, but oh well. Power to him. Yeah, I hope Disney buys it! Screw WB and MGM. ( Poor MGM though, they're losing with Sony)

Hmm...I don't know whether consider this a negative or a positive. Either way I really hope my dreams of being an animator for Pixar comes true.

Hmm...Disney buying Pixar..does that mean we'd get a Toy Story 3, Bug's Life 2, Monsters Inc. 2, The Incredibles 2 as part of the deal?

I'd be surprised if Jobs would let go of such a hot commodity, but since it is a hot commodity, it's expensive.

Wow- unexpected, but very interesting. Does Jobs have a controlling interest? Would he be selling just his 50%, or would this be a board decision for the whole company?

If Pixar really does go up for sale, I think Disney would be sorely mistaken not to make the purchase. Surely it would be of more value to them than the ABC merger.

I agree, this is certainly a surprise. As much as I would hate to see Disney buy Pixar (if this ever does become a reality) as far as potential sequels go, it would be much better for Disney than if Dreamworks or Universal won out. I believe that the past relationship of Pixar talent and Disney reputation/name is by far the best situation we can hope for in the future, as it has clearly worked out very well so far.

If Pixar really does go up for sale, I think Disney would be sorely mistaken not to make the purchase. Surely it would be of more value to them than the ABC merger.

Where would they get that kind of money? That has got to be an expensive proposition buying Pixar, no? You don't think that ABC was a profitable purchase?

I think all of the money Disney has made from all their sequels will be enough for them to buy Pixar.

I just want to say that Disney probably has more money then Pixar!

While yes, Pixar's films are very successful, with theatrical gross, DVD Sales, not to mention all that merchandise! However Pixar is just not very good with advertisment.

Of course it's not their fault, any "small" company outside of Hollywood probably has economic problems, however Disney is a much bigger company and could probably afford Pixar, if they considered it! I mean Disney owns 3 movies companies, 11 theme parks, 4 t.v. stations(there could be more if I'm mistaken) alot of merchandise etc... So overall Pixar is an outstanding animation company, but it's over at Disney where there are experts on buissness!

So overall with Pixar's storytelling and Disney's buissness, they can come together and take over the world!

I was wondering:

As it was stated here before, Pixar itself wouldn`t be able to survive as an independent business, and this might be the proof of it.
To accept that leting go Pixar was a mistake that Disney wouln`t recognize, but knowing the previously stated here info, maybe they waited this to happen, then they`ll just buy Pixar and they would be able to do anything to all the Pixar`s characters(and this include sequels) because now Pixar would be part of Disney.

Even when they just sell the 50% of it, is enough to say that a company is yours, but to assure it, they could buy another 1% by a third person so if the decitions becomed really hard, they would always have the last word

^ Actually that's another thing that shocked me...why does Jobs only have 50%...if he really wanted to be in charge, he'd have 51%.
