Hahaha. Thanks!
I couldn't have been the only one to think it up... when I tried to register as MinnieMe at DVDspot.com someone had already registered that name!!
Disney is probably marketing the two together since there may be a smaller market for those wanting just the 1986 sequel. It's not as well known and had a very made-for-TV look about it. Most run of the mill movie viewers wouldn't get excited about buying it on it's own. Families and general movie goers will pick up the two pack and those who already have the 1st one will also have to buy the two pack in order to get the sequel. Takes advantage of both groups of people.
At first I thought this would be an "economy" version, simply a 1-discer with both movies on it. That would have allowed me to buy it, simply because I already have the Vault Disney Parent Trap, and I could do with double dipping for the sequel.
But now it's a 2-discer, with everything from the Vault Disney release EXCEPT for the commentary.
I hardly listen to commentaries, only if it's with a film where I've watched it so many times it's refreshing to hear different dialogue (like Star Trek and The Ten Commandments), so now I'm wondering whether or not to buy this really shameless double-dip solely for the sequel.
Those bastards...they should at least have the economy version so that:
1. People who already have the first release don't need to be burdened with another disc
2. People who can't afford the Vault Disney release, or simply don't want it can have the movies
Economy versions are good. Fox does this. MGM does this. Warner Brothers does this. For many of their two-discers, they also have a 1-disc alternate which is essentially just the first disc. Or in some cases, the original 1-disc before it was upgraded to a two-disc. But at least they have two versions available. Why can't Disney do it?
I'm still bitter about the POTC "Lost Disc" too.
On a semi-related note, maybe we'll get lucky and the Old Yeller-Savage Sam will have SS in OAR. I'd gladly double dip for that rather than buy Savage Sam alone and in P&S.

Wasn't the Vault Disney Collection reduced in price. I remember buying it earlier this year for 15.87 Canadian.
I know that this news is a few weeks old, but does this release mean that the current Vault Disney edition of the original Parent Trap is going to go out of print soon? I'm not interested in any way about The Parent Trap 2 and considering that an audio-commentary will be lost, would it be a good idea to get the VD as soon as possible?

I think it's probably a safe bet that the Vault Disney versions of <i>Old Yeller</i> and <i>The Parent Trap</i> will go out of print. No reason to have two SKUs when everything is the same (price, number of discs) except there is a sequel instead of a commentary. A commentary doesn't take up a great deal of space, though, so let's hope that maybe it was somehow simply overlooked for this press release.
Has Disney mentioned if they are going to make the Parent Trap III and Parent Trap: Hawaiian Honeymoon available on dvd? Glad to see that Parent Trap II is going to be available!

The Vault Disney set of The Parent Trap is already unavailable at Amazon. Old Yeller will also disappear soon, I'm sure.
As for the missing commentary and "Donald's Double Trouble", they are truly absent from the 2-Movie Collection DVD, but everything else is there. My in-depth review can be read here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/parenttra ... ction.html

I'm anxiously awaiting their release. But that will only happen if Disney knows there is a market for it (I think....I still don't understand the release of The Christmas Star?). One can hope can't they? I love and miss those movies dearly.
