Re: Star Wars OOT On Blu-ray soon!?!?!

I don't think we're going to get the original trilogy on Blu-ray. Lucas has repeatedly said they don't exist any more. And, given the state of the DVD releases, I'm inclined to believe him (no matter how crazy and irresponsible it seems). I mean, despite not having any love for Lucas, I don't think ...

Re: James Cameron & Fox Expand the Worlds of "Avatar"

Somehow, I don't think the Academy were responding to Titanic's Cult/Campness. They were responding to the money.

It's been a long time since I've seen Titanic. When I got the Blu-ray I only watched the supplements! (Something I find myself doing with more and more films these days).

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

In retrospect, I guess it was obvious it would be a known "name" in the role. The BBC wouldn't do a live show if the reveal was somebody most of the audience hadn't heard of. I'm somewhat disappointed it isn't Rigby - but having an "older" Doctor should, hopefully, enable differe...

Re: James Cameron & Fox Expand the Worlds of "Avatar"

Titanic is - like all latter Cameron films - full of stereotypes. From a purely entertainment point of view, there's little wrong with Titanic (it is, rather too long. You don't need to spend time establishing characters if they're all walking/talking clichés). There's even less wrong with Avatar. D...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Personally, I don't want to see a woman. No matter how good the actress, I think its just going to seem as a gimmick. It's I think throughout the actress' run, it would be in danger of being a gimmick. In all honestly, what with River Song recently (and Romana in Classic Who) as well as the constant...

Re: James Cameron & Fox Expand the Worlds of "Avatar"

He says two extra films wouldn't be enough to contain all the content he has? Does that mean the third sequel will be about a Kitchen Sink?

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Well, the new Doctor will be announced tomorrow in a special programme - much like Matt Smith was. Part of me thinks this is taking things too far - I don't really see why a normal news item isn't enough. The favourite is apparently Peter Capaldi. I find this unlikely. Not because of his age but bec...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Thoughts about the two videos above: Caroline Skinner? Wasn't she "erased" from Doctor Who history? Obviously her executive producership must be a fixed point in time. :D This just reminds me how much I love Barbara. I'd go as far as saying Barbara is my favourite "classic series"...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

It's not my idea, but I was sort of hoping the Daleks would be saved from the 50th and have a "proper" Dalek story for the Christmas special. After all, then we could have a 50th Anniversary special for the show and a 50th Anniversary special for the Daleks. Given Matt's going to regenerat...

The film of 2013 - Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Forget about the rest, go for the best: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfilms/film/alan_partridge Alan Partridge has had many ups and downs in life. National television broadcaster. Responsible for killing a guest on live TV. Local radio broadcaster. Nervous breakdown in Dundee. A self-published book, 'Boun...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Well...you're right, but I prefer the principle and method by which Rose was written, yet her obnoxious behaviour in Tooth and Claw, The Idiot's Lantern, et al, did make her more annoying than Clara at least. I'm not sure whether I dislike S2Rose more than Amy, however. She was an amalgamation of e...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Hi Sorry this reply is so late, I've been busy... but I have been watching some Doctor Who episodes (more of which later)... I think Moffat is an adequate writer, on the whole. His - often incredibly ambitious, and frequently ingenious - ideas are better than their execution. His characters are of t...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Blimey! Thinking of starting a Fanzine Ollie? :o I don't know how to respond to that. There's a couple of things I've wanted to say for a while now so I think you post leads me to do so as it touches on many similarities. Despite my preference for Davies' scripts, by no means is Moffat a bad writer....

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Oh Neil. How could you? I never thought such a talented and emotive writer could have misunderstood the unique "horror" of the Cybermen so much. There was no reason what so ever for these to be Cybermen and not random robots from the planet Zog. And alas, The Great Intelligence in the fina...

Re: UltimateDisney.com/DVDizzy.com Reviews: Discussion Threa

Hi Luke! I have to strongly disagree with your "A Monster in Paris" review. I found the film a breath of fresh air and full of engaging characters. The whole film was filled with an innocent, heart-felt naivety missing from most children's films these days (live-action or animated) includi...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

But I think we've already seen the limitations of the Weeping Angels. Seriously, both (proper) times they have come back they've just been diminished. How can the Statue of Liberty one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, be a Weeping Angel based on what we learned in The Time Of Angels regard...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

The main problem with JNT's returning monsters was that they sort of expected people to know who they were, and what they were. Nothing was properly explained and unless you were in on the show's history, stories were in danger of becoming a mess. I mean, YOU try and explain Attack of the Cybermen t...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Yeah, I saw the Tennant/Piper news about an hour after posting. Looks like it will be an Pete's World/hand-Doctor type thing. It's not what I want to see in the special - so (in a typical spoiled entitled fan response) its obviously "wrong". How dare Moffat ressurect that fanfiction-like m...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Well, the first 10/10 for me since A Christmas Carol. Absolutely fantastic. I notice that there were similarities to the Idiot's Lantern with the faces on the screen. I still find these shots to be incredibly chilling. The only thing that bothers me is ... What exactly is the Great Intelligence's mo...

Re: Doctor Who Discussion

Hey Franky! What's the deal with Clara? Here's my theory... So far, a theme of the first three stories Clara has been in/will be in appears to be "network". She hacked the Daleks' network. She seemed to overwhelm the Great Inteligence's mental "network" and caused the snow to mel...
