Top 30 Live Action Disney Movies Countdown 30. (1993) |

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is an incredible film. Although I haven’t seen it in ages (largely due to Disney’s refusal to bring it out in a nice 1.85:1 widescreen DVD in Region 1 despite having released a properly framed laserdisc version and a correct DVD in other regions), my memories of the movie are wonderful. It’s exciting, epic and emotional. As an owner of no less than seven pets over the years, all of whom I love very much, Chance, Shadow and Sassy’s extreme and utter devotion to their human masters is especially touching, in the same vein as The Brave Little Toaster and the Toy Story movies. This is a superb film that deserves much more than its current treatment on DVD.
There have been very few movies that allow one to enter a dog's psyche
and get to know what they're thinking. Generally, live-action animal
movies are not that good, but Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is
one of those rare exceptions. The classic children's story is combined
with top-notch voice talents provided by Michael J. Fox (as the endearing
Chance), Sally Field (as Sassy the cat), and Don Ameche (as the wise
Shadow). You end up rooting for the characters and hoping that
everything turns out well in the end. By the end of the movie, I was in
tears.
